Alex King

Alex King is currently Chairman, Policy and Resources Advisory Committee, having also served as Deputy Leader of Kent County Council for a number of years. He became a member of the Council in 1989.  Since that time he has held a succession of posts in the Conservative administrations.

His current responsibilities include Kent’s international relationships and for the Democracy and Partnerships functions.  The County Council has well established connections in Europe and in the United States, particularly with the Commonwealth of Virginia. Kent’s international contacts are particularly related to trade and inward investment – the inward investment agency, Locate in Kent, where Alex serves as a non-executive director is highly regarded.

Before entering public life, Alex had a successful career as a skilled non-executive director and management consultant specialising in human resource issues and organisation and business development with a background of senior management and board appointments in the private sector and also having experience of local government, the National Health Service and other public sector organisations.

Alex is a member of the World Traders Livery Company and a Freeman of the City of London.  He is a Bachelor of Arts, a Fellow of the Institute of Personnel and Development, the Institute of Management, the Institute of Directors and the Institute of Management Consultancy.

In private life he is a Management Consultant specialising in Human Resources, General Management, and Organisation and Business Development issues with a significant overseas client base.
