DCU Age-Friendly is proud to host its third international conference "Engaging Ageing '21 “The Future of Ageing and the Silver Economy”, November 1 – 3, 2021.

This industry-focused three-day event will bring together global experts and practitioners to provoke conversations and pioneer solutions seeking to harness the opportunities of rising demographics. The first day is dedicated to an academic Symposium, followed by 2 days of presentations and discussion from global and national practitioners in business, services, and industry.
 
The conference offers an excellent opportunity to understand this emerging area of increased focus while helping to shape the nascent concepts of business opportunities and the Future of Ageing and the Silver Economy.

Professor Joao Pedro De Magalhaes

Professor Joao Pedro De Magalhaes

Professor Joao Pedro De Magalhaes is a Portuguese scientist, futurist, and entrepreneur. His work focuses on studying the ageing process and how we can manipulate it to fend off age-related diseases and improve human health. The goal of his work is to help understand the genetic, cellular, and molecular mechanisms of ageing. In the long term, he would like his work to help ameliorate age-related diseases and preserve health. Following training at Harvard Medical School, he established a lab at the University of Liverpool in England where he studies ageing and longevity.

 
Nora Super

Nora Super

Ms. Nora Super is the senior director of the Milken Institute Center for the Future of Ageing (CFA) and the executive director of the Milken Institute Alliance to Improve Dementia Care. Super provides strategic direction for the two primary focus areas of CFA: Financial Wellness and Healthy Longevity.

Before joining the Milken Institute, Super held several key leadership roles in the public and private sectors. In 2014, President Barack Obama appointed Super executive director of the White House Conference on Aging, where she received wide recognition for her nationwide efforts to improve the lives of older Americans.  In 2015, Super was recognized as one of America’s top 50 “Influencers in Aging” by PBS Next Avenue and was the Honoree for Outstanding Service to Medicare Beneficiaries by the Medicare Rights Center.

 
Maurizio Bussolo

Maurizio Bussolo

Dr. Maurizio Bussolo is the lead economist in the Chief Economist Office for South Asia and has been working on quantitative analyses of economic policy and development with research interests spanning both micro and macroeconomic topics. 

At the World Bank, he also worked in the Chief Economist Office for Europe and Central Asia and in the Development Economics Prospects Group; and he led operational teams in the aftermath of the 2008-09 crisis negotiating with Latin American and Caribbean governments the implementation of reforms to shield the most vulnerable. Before joining the World Bank in 2003, Bussolo worked at the OECD, at the Overseas Development Institute in London, and at Fedesarrollo and the Los Andes University in Colombia. He has extensively published in peer-reviewed journals on trade, growth, poverty and income distribution.

 
Aisling Conway Lenihan

Dr. Aisling Conway Lenihan

Dr. Aisling Conway Lenihan is a Lecturer in Economics and Academic Researcher with the Hincks Centre for Entrepreneurship Excellence at MTU. Aisling holds a BA, Higher Diploma in Health Economics & Evaluation Studies, Masters of Business Economics and PhD in Health Economics from University College Cork. She also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching & Learning in Higher Education from Griffith College Cork. Since joining MTU in 2007, Aisling has taught across a range of courses, both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Aisling has served as an external examiner for two higher education institutions and participated on an interview panel as the academic representative. Aisling is an MTU judge for the Young Economist of the Year for second-level students. Aisling has presented at national and international conferences and published her work in peer-reviewed international journals.

 
Shruti Singh

Shruti Singh

Shruti Singh manages activities and the programme of work of the OECD Centre for Opportunity of Equality (COPE). She joined the OECD in 2007 as an economist, and has since then, led and co-authored several landmark reports in the area of disability, mental health and work policies. Shruti has also written extensively on a wide range of labour market policy issues including Active Labour Market Policies and Displaced Workers policies aimed at labour-market reintegration of the unemployed. Prior to joining the OECD, Shruti was a policy analyst at the Department for Work and Pensions in the United Kingdom where she was responsible for designing and analysing UK’s key labour market policies.
