You are cordially invited to an interactive panel discussion on the topic “What is the role of universities in international development?” hosted by the Glasgow Centre for International Development (GCID). This event, taking place on November 15th, marks a new chapter for GCID, as we explore the role of universities in the ever-changing environment of funding, impact and interdisciplinarity.

While traditionally universities have been active in international development initiatives, the shifting funding landscape and emphasis on impact has led to an ever-increasing university presence in areas previously dominated by NGOs and governments. The benefits that universities bring to supporting international development goals are many, but how they fit into an already complex landscape of international development activity and how they can best contribute to improving welfare for the world's poorest people is less clear.

In this interactive panel discussion, the Glasgow Centre for International Development brings together experts from different sectors to explore the role of universities in international development.

We will be joined by the Principal of the University of Glasgow, Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli and 4 panel members from a variety of sectors linked to international development:

The event will be chaired by Simon Anderson, Senior Fellow at the International Institute for Environment and Development  (https://www.iied.org/users/simon-anderson) and promises to be an engaging and interesting afternoon.

The event will be opened by Professor Muscatelli, and will conclude with an informal reception.

For all the details and TO REGISTER, please visit https://gcidpaneldiscussion2017.eventbrite.co.uk. I encourage you to circulate this invitation widely, including to stakeholders and partners outside the University of Glasgow – this is a broad event and is open to anyone who is interested. We anticipate tickets will go quickly, so please register soon.

Priscilla and Koen will be joining us for the full day on November 15th. If you would like to meet with them, please let me know.

Cheers,

Mary
