International Review of Education – Journal of Lifelong Learning

The International Review of Education – Journal of Lifelong Learning (IRE) was first published in 1931, making it the world’s longest-running international journal of comparative education. It has been edited by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) since 1955. Traditionally, the IRE has not only published research on systems and methods of education, but also explored innovations and efforts to increase access to education for those excluded socially, economically or politically. The IRE is published by Springer Science+Business Media.

Since 2013, the IRE has gradually shifted its focus from comparative education to a closer alignment with the work of UIL. Priority is therefore given to papers on adult education, non-formal education and literacy, or on formal education viewed through the lens of lifelong learning. Consistent with the mandate of UNESCO, the IRE aims to foster exchange on lifelong learning from all regions of the world, particularly developing countries. It serves not only research communities, but also policy-makers and practitioners.

The IRE is a double-blind peer-reviewed journal which accepts submissions in English and French from all regions of the world. Manuscripts should be original and should not be under consideration by another journal or published elsewhere prior to submission. In addition to inviting submissions for its general issues, IRE also publishes regular guest-edited special issues on key topics in lifelong learning, adult education, non-formal education and literacy.
