Shaping Metrics for Cultural Engagement Knowledge Transfer

AHRC Research Workshops on the Impact of Arts and Humanities Research:
Shaping Metrics for Cultural Engagement Knowledge Transfer
How do we evaluate the Knowledge Transfer process?
How do we evidence the Knowledge Exchange process?
How can we assess the impact of Knowledge Transfer?
What does success look like?
These are some of the questions to be explored at a series of AHRC funded research workshops run by the University of Glasgow to explore how best to assess or measure cultural engagement. Cultural Engagement is increasingly viewed as an important element of University activity and this is our chance to ensure that the ways in which it is looked at and assessed are both sensible and appropriate.
Various attempts have been made to identify an appropriate method to measure the impact of Knowledge Transfer. Significant progress has been made in defining metrics for more traditional KT activities and their delivery of Economic Development objectives, but measurement of Cultural Engagement activity and impact is lagging, due to the very different inputs, outputs and objectives. These proposed workshops would provide the forum to explore alternative measures, taking advantage of the experience and research of the participants and the University of Glasgow’s experience in developing the model upon which the Scottish Knowledge Transfer Grant allocation is based.
Participants at the three workshops will include academics from across Scotland, cultural partners and the AHRC. The workshop leaders are experienced practitioners in Cultural Heritage management and KT metrics.
The workshops will take place on the following dates:
- 18 February 2009 at the University of Glasgow: 9.00 am to 1.00 pm
- 20 February 2009 at the University of Aberdeen: 1.00 pm to 5.00 pm
- 25 February 2009 at the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh: 1.00 pm to 5.00 pm
