UBDC Call for Expressions of Interest - Update and upcoming Webinar

Sarah Currier's picture

Hello all – just a wee update re promoting UBDC’s current Call for Expressions of Interest – we had an info webinar yesterday (24/8) about the Call and UBDC’s Services – a recording is now available here.

Secondly, to highlight again one of the offers on the table for this Call – we have data acquisition budget to spend so we are looking for research projects who need data they can’t otherwise access – see under Data Sourcing Service here - and remind people the deadline for EoIs is 9 September 2016!

Many thanks,

Sarah

We are now well into the UBDC’s 2nd Call for Expressions of Interest – deadline 9 September - and we have noticed that, despite it being a holiday period, we get a rush of new submissions each time we publicise the Call, so we are refreshing our comms every week.

We would appreciate it so much if you could publicise the Call (again) to any groups or communities you are part of (and consider applying yourself for any new projects!)- this might include:

  • Your university or organisation, particularly departments or research groups that study relevant topics.
  • Any personally known colleagues who may be more willing to read an email from you than from a mailing list.
  • Any subject or discipline-related communities you are part of.
  • Any local lunchtime talks or other forums where you could insert a line in a slide or ask someone to mention the Call and services/data.
  • Other networks you have with relevant stakeholders, e.g. contacts within local authorities, govt, third sector, business or community groups where there might be people interested in using big data to look at urban issues.

A couple of new things to hang your new promo on:

  • We are really pushing the Data Sourcing Service from here-on in – we have budget to spend on data and we need to allocate it soon as data acquisitions tend to take a long time to negotiate. See this Tweet and this LinkedIn announcement and the announcement on Facebook here.
  • We are running a “UBDC Call for EoIs Webinar” on August 24th, so that would be another excuse to contact anyone you may have already contacted. I have attached the promo email for this and the webpage is here - please note a recording of this webinar will also be made available.
  • Nick and Mirjam will be doing a special promo for the Controlled Data Service (for personally identifiable / admin data) – so I will forward that when it comes.

Finally – we are also sending out Tweets and other notifications targeted at specific datasets on offer this time - so for example, you might send out an email headed:

  • “Are you doing urban transport research on cycling? Check out UBDC’s Call for Expressions of Interest: free Strava data on offer” or
  • “Interested in urban indicators and visualising urban data for planning? Check our UBDC’s Call for Expressions of interest for their free SUDS indicators and LiDAR data” or
  • “Interested in educational attainment as an urban issue?  …” … you get the picture!
  • Or even just “#Transport#Education #Housing#Geospatial #Data available for free via UBDC.”

Thanks everyone – if there is anything I can do to help with this let me know – but we need lots of good projects from around the whole UK! And most of our data can also be shared with colleagues overseas.

Best wishes,

Sarah
