UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning - Annual Report 2020
Please find featured below and attached the 2020 Annual Report of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL), also available online here.
While the COVID-19 pandemic has had devastating impacts on education, economies, and societies around the world, it has also forced us to explore new learning modalities and has underscored the tremendous importance of lifelong learning. UIL’s Annual Report for 2020 demonstrates how the Institute rose to the challenges posed by the pandemic, devising innovative and creative ways of reinforcing the provision of lifelong learning opportunities for all, despite the harsh environment.
In 2020, UIL worked with the 229 members of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities to integrate lifelong learning into their emergency response plans. Continuing its engagement to promote literacy, the Institute built the capacities of policy-makers and other stakeholders to implement family literacy programmes and further strengthened the Global Alliance for Literacy within the Framework of Lifelong Learning (GAL). Moreover, despite the unique challenges brought on by the global health crisis, UNESCO Member States nonetheless responded to the survey launched by UIL to prepare the fifth Global Report on Adult Learning and Education (GRALE 5), thereby cementing their commitment to promoting adult learning and education.
We are proud of the progress we have made in 2020, which has only been possible thanks to the collaborative efforts of UNESCO Member States, National Commissions for UNESCO, and other UIL partners, all of whom contributed to our activities in over 70 countries.
I warmly invite you to explore our virtual annual report for 2020 and look forward to our future collaboration.
