The next meeting or the Urban-Rural Learning Initiative LCN will feature a presentation by Professor Barry Golding about diversifying the Men's Sheds movement. Barry will speak at the commencement of our meeting and others are welcome to join. 

The presentation will be during the first part of the meeting, followed by opportunities for questions. Details are as follows:

The highlight of the 6th meeting of the Connecting Urban and Rural Learning Initiatives Network within PASCAL’s Learning Cities Networks (LCN) on 23 September was a presentation about the Illinois Institute of Rural Affairs (IIRA): building the capacity of community leaders and policy makers.

The third meeting of the Urban and Rural Learning Initiatives featured a presentation from Professor Idowu Biao, Professor of Lifelong Learning, Université d’Abomey Calavi, Benin, about Rural-Urban Migration and its Implication for Learning in Cities: the Case Study of Benin.

Meeting Notes | Connecting Urban and Rural Learning Initiatives

This was the inaugural meeting of the network. The first matter discussed was the aim of the network and suggested topics (see http://lcn.pascalobservatory.org/networks/urban-rural).

There was a general discussion about the suggested topics. The two topics that were of most interest to follow up on were:

  1. Regional Economic Development: Strategies that focus on promoting employment, entrepreneurship, and small business start-ups and development, and
  2. Measures to combat changing demographics due to COVID-19 migration.
