The city of Modiin Maccabim Reut, Israel, and the FVG Region, Italy, continue to strengthen ties and cooperation between Learning Cities, to create a natural connection for the Younger generation, the generation of the future. In order to enhance a multi-cultural dialogue between Learning Communities, a dialogue establishing a bridge of inclusivity, overcoming cultural differences, and connecting past – present and future, in order to promote humanistic values that we all share, as a Global Learning Society.

PIMA Bulletin No. 34 - January 2021

We begin this ambiguous New Year on an upbeat note: Chris Brooks demurs at the prevailing doom and gloom with which we farewelled 2020, noting causes for collective pride. Yet there is also a blunt closing challenge: in his rural village ‘flat-earthers’ display ‘thoughtless thinking and a failure to identify and examine the facts’. ‘Surely this is a major educational failure. What should we do?’ Brooks asks.

Towards Citizens Enablement | PASCAL PUMR programme has been refocused, extended and retitled

The powerful and progressive PASCAL PUMR programme has been refocused, extended, and retitled, as Citizens Enablement, following comprehensive discussions with the Leonardo Ambassadors for Corporate Learning; they believe the new title simply portrays the best that the development has to offer society, especially after COVID-19. The essence of the honed approach is still that academics can, and should, enable/empower citizens to achieve their desired aspirations, both by, and for, themselves.

Notes from the second meeting of the PASCAL Learning Cities Networks “Reimagining Inclusive Economic Futures” (RIEF) on 26 Nov 2020

The first presentation was by Palmira Jucevicienne and Robertus Jucevicienne and focused on the highly successful rejuvenation of the Old Town part of Kaunas in Lithuania. It was pointed out that a Learning City does not function for itself, it is established for problem-solving and the biggest problem at the present time is that of sustainable development.

Invitation from PIMA Member: Call for Papers for the International Forum of Teaching and Studies (IFOTS)

I have been one of the journal’s editors since its inception in 2004. I am proud to be affiliated with American Scholars Press, founded by a former doctoral student of mine. IFOTS has a 16-history of publishing established authors in education as much as welcoming newcomers to our profession; we strive to provide a forum for those who teach and those who learn!

PIMA Bulletin No. 33 - November 2020

The expression used by the Queen of Britain of the death year of the 'people's princess' in the nineties well applies as 2020 departs. That was a one-family crisis; this is a people's crisis world-wide. It is the first truly global pandemic for a century, following World War One. Governance seems close to collapse: globally in the UN system; and in weak, near-failing nation-states or under harsh authoritarianism.

Professor Jim Gallacher

On Saturday 31 October a great Scotsman died. Professor Jim Gallacher, for some four decades, was a driving force in the widening of access to higher education in Scotland, and in fostering the development of research in lifelong learning. He was a close personal friend and colleague of mine for over 30 years, and it is with great sadness that I write this account of his work.
